Abuse therapy for teens and adults in Dallas and across Texas

If you’re experiencing abuse or have survived it in the past, please remember that the abuse is never your fault. Abuse can come from many places, including people you thought you could trust, and it’s important to know that it’s not caused by anything you did, your boundaries, or your personality. It can come from family members, friends, or romantic relationships, but no matter the source, the emotional burden is not yours to carry alone.

At Healing Harmony, we create a safe space for teens, young adults, and third culture kids (TCKs) in Dallas and across Texas to process their experiences with abuse and take steps toward healing. Whether the abuse was emotional, physical, or psychological, our therapy is designed to help you find your inner strength, rebuild your self-esteem, and reclaim control of your life.

What is abuse therapy?

Abuse therapy is a type of counseling designed to help you work through the trauma caused by abuse. Abuse can take many forms—emotional, physical, sexual, or psychological—and it’s not always easy to recognize the full impact it has on you. Therapy gives you a safe place to talk about your experience, process your emotions, and build tools for healing.

This kind of therapy isn’t about “getting over” the abuse. Instead, it’s about helping you feel safe again, restore your self-confidence, and learn coping skills so that the effects of abuse don’t continue to interfere with your future, whether that’s in school, relationships, or your own self-worth.

Most common symptoms of abuse

When you’ve gone through abuse, it’s normal for those experiences to show up in unexpected ways. Here are some common signs of the effects of abuse:

- Constant anxiety or feeling scared, even in situations where you should feel safe

- Difficulty trusting others, even friends, or keeping close relationships

- Feeling ashamed, guilty, or like the abuse was somehow your fault

- Avoiding friends, family, or things you used to enjoy doing

- Low self-esteem or a sense of worthlessness, especially in social settings or relationships

- Flashbacks, nightmares, or intrusive thoughts about the abuse

- Anger or irritability, sometimes without understanding where it comes from

- Trouble sleeping or always feeling tired, no matter how much rest you get

- Physical symptoms, like headaches or stomach problems, that don’t seem to have a clear cause

If you recognize these feelings, it’s important to seek help. Abuse can have a long-lasting impact on both your mental and physical health, but the right support can make all the difference in how you heal.

How do I know if I need abuse therapy?

It’s not always easy to know when abuse is affecting you, especially when life is already complicated enough. Here are some questions to ask yourself:

- Do I feel scared or overwhelmed by memories of what happened?

- Do I struggle to trust people or connect with others, even though I want to?

- Do I feel like I can’t talk about my experience with anyone, even close friends?

- Am I avoiding certain people, places, or situations because they remind me of the abuse?

- Do I get upset or angry easily without always knowing why?

If you’ve answered yes to any of these, abuse therapy could help you find a way forward. It’s okay to take your time and work through things at your own pace. Healing isn’t a race, and you deserve to feel supported as you go through it.
It´s okay to take your time as you work through what you’ve been through.

What is the difference between TCK life Coaching with Rebekah and Counseling with Jeffrey?

Life Coaching and Counseling overlap in many ways. Both help you reach life goals, deal with relational issues, process the past, etc. However, the way they are different is mainly what Life Coaching can’t do. For any type of diagnosing, trauma, suicidal ideation, and extreme cases, you would need to do Counseling with Jeffrey under his LPC license.

Both Jeffrey and Rebekah are specialized in TCK therapy. Rebekah is a Life Coach with official certifications in TCK Caregiving, Anxiety Coaching, and Christian Spiritual Direction.

Jeffrey is a Licensed Professional Counselor who has done extensive research on TCKs. He also specializes in and has done extensive research on ADHD.

Since Jeffrey is an LPC, he is licensed to diagnose and handle high levels of trauma, so if that is the case, you would be referred to him. Either way, once you have an introduction session with us, we will refer you to the one of us we think your situation needs the most and if we aren’t the right fit we will refer you to our network of other therapists.

Do you provide virtual counseling, especially if we are outside of Texas or the USA?

Jeffrey LPC, can only provide in-person or online counseling if you are physically within the state of Texas.

If you are based anywhere else in the world we can help you with our life coach license.

Do you offer discounts to missionary families?

We are passionate about serving TCKs and making sure they receive proper support so we offer a few sessions at a discounted rate. If those discounted sessions are already taken, then we do our best to pair you with other therapists and resources that match your budget.

We can also work with Missionaries’ sending organizations to see if they will pay for part of therapy.

Do you offer family therapy?

Jeffrey and Rebekah are not family therapists, so if a client needs family therapy, we will refer them out to experienced therapists in our network. Individual therapy often involves other family members though, so there might be a few sessions that can involve other family members in order to support the individual client and their growth journey.
