frequently asked questions about therapy for young adults

  • What type of therapy is best for young adults?

The type of therapy that is best for young adults often depends on individual needs, preferences, and personality. It’s common during this season in life to have a lot of built up pressure to have things figured out. If it’s college, then everyone wants to know what degree you want, are you getting good grades? What do you plan to do after you graduate? Once you graduate, the expectation is for you to get married, have a job, figure out how to pay bills, and this list goes on. In these situations it can be hard to find safe places to process these emotions, feel listened to, and gain skills needed to reach a place where you can thrive.

For young adults it’s important to find that safe place to process that pressure and anything else going on in life, then together with the therapist, they can figure out what style of therapy is best.

  • What is young adult therapy?

Young adult therapy is a form of counseling tailored specifically to address the unique challenges and transitions faced by individuals typically between the ages of 18 and 30. It focuses on supporting young adults in managing stress, navigating life transitions, and addressing mental health concerns.

  • How is counseling young people different from counseling older adults?

Counseling young people differs from counseling adults in that it often involves addressing issues specific to adolescence and early adulthood, such as identity development, peer relationships, academic stress, and career exploration. Therapists working with young adults often use age-appropriate techniques and may involve family or support systems in the therapeutic process.

  • What are the types of therapy techniques for young adults?

    • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
    • Attachment based therapy
    • Emotionally focused therapy
    • Narrative therapy
    • Dialectical Behavior therapy
    • Existential therapy
    • Motivational interviewing
    • Person centered therapy

  • What mental health issues do young adults mostly experience?

Common mental health issues experienced by young adults include anxiety disorders (such as generalized anxiety, social anxiety), depression, substance abuse, eating disorders, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), adjustment disorders, and mood disorders.

  • The importance of therapy for young adults

Therapy is crucial for young adults as it provides a safe and supportive environment to explore emotions, develop coping skills, and navigate life transitions effectively. It helps young adults build resilience, improve self-esteem, and address mental health challenges before they become more serious issues later in life. Therapy also promotes self-discovery, personal growth, and overall well-being during this pivotal stage of development.

  • What is the difference between life coaching with Rebekah and counseling with Jeffrey?

Life Coaching and Counseling overlap in many ways. Both help you reach life goals, deal with relational issues, process the past, etc. However, the way they are different is mainly what Life Coaching can’t do. For any type of diagnosing, trauma, suicidal ideation, and extreme cases, you would need to do Counseling with Jeffrey under his LPC license.

Both Jeffrey and Rebekah are specialized in life coaching.

Jeffrey is a Licensed Professional Counselor. He also specializes in and has done extensive research on ADHD.

Since Jeffrey is an LPC, he is licensed to diagnose and handle high levels of trauma, so if that is the case, you would be referred to him. Either way, once you have an introduction session with us, we will refer you to the one of us we think your situation needs the most and if we aren’t the right fit we will refer you to our network of other licensed therapists.

  • Do you provide virtual counseling, especially if we are outside of Texas or the USA?

Jeffrey LPC, can only provide in-person or online counseling if you are physically within the state of Texas.

If you are based anywhere else in the world we can help you with our life coach license.

  • Do you offer family therapy?

Jeffrey and Rebekah are not family therapists, so if a client needs family therapy, we will refer them out to experienced therapists in our network. Individual therapy often involves other family members though, so there might be a few sessions that can involve other family members in order to support the individual client and their growth journey.

It's time to experience the transformative power of therapy and life coaching in helping you thrive and live authentically.
