Grief counseling for teens and adults in Dallas and across Texas

Losing someone important to you can feel like the world has flipped upside down. It’s especially tough when you’re already trying to figure out who you are, where you’re going, and what you want out of life. Whether it’s sadness that won’t go away, anger you can’t explain, or a feeling of just being “stuck,” you’re not alone.

If you're feeling lost or overwhelmed, know that it’s okay to feel this way. At Healing Harmony, we’re here to help teens, young adults, and third culture kids (TCKs) in Dallas and across Texas navigate grief with empathy, care, and understanding. Grief is hard, but you don’t have to carry it by yourself. Let’s talk about the signs of grief, how it’s treated, and how we can support you along the way.

What is grief counseling?

Grief counseling is a type of therapy that helps you process the loss of someone important in your life. It’s a space where you can talk about everything you’re feeling—whether that’s sadness, anger, guilt, or confusion—without feeling judged or misunderstood. Losing a family member, friend, or even a pet can stir up a lot of emotions that might be hard to make sense of, especially when you’re balancing everything else in your life like school, work, or friendships.

The goal of grief counseling isn’t about “getting over it.” It’s about learning how to carry your grief in a way that lets you move forward, while still honoring the person you lost. In our sessions, you’ll gain tools to handle your emotions, manage daily challenges, and start to feel like yourself again.

Most common symptoms of grief

Grief looks different for everyone, but some signs show up more often in teenagers and young adults who are dealing with loss. Here’s what you might experience:

- Feeling really sad or crying often, even when you don’t want to

- Trouble sleeping—either not being able to sleep or sleeping too much

- Losing interest in things you usually love, like hanging out with friends, gaming, or your hobbies

- Anger or frustration that comes out of nowhere

- Guilt about things you wish you’d said or done differently

- Pulling away from friends or feeling like no one understands what you're going through

- Difficulty focusing in school, at work, or even during everyday tasks

- Feeling tired all the time, or experiencing headaches and stomach aches with no clear cause

Grief can also make you feel like life is on pause—like you’re just going through the motions, unsure how to move forward. It’s important to recognize when grief is interfering with your life, because if left untreated, it can lead to more serious issues like depression or anxiety. Getting help early on can make a huge difference.

How do I know if I need grief counseling?

Grief can feel confusing, and sometimes it’s hard to know when to reach out for support. Here are a few questions to ask yourself:

- Am I still feeling stuck in my grief, even months after the loss?

- Am I avoiding people, places, or things that remind me of the person I lost?

- Do I feel constantly drained or tired, no matter how much rest I get?

- Is it hard for me to talk about my grief with anyone because they don’t understand?

- Do I feel like I don’t know how to move forward or what my next steps should be?

If any of these questions resonate with you, grief counseling might be the right step. It’s okay to ask for help. You don’t have to have everything figured out—grief counseling is a space for you to be real about your feelings, no matter how messy they seem.

How we treat grief in Dallas and across Texas

At Healing Harmony, we understand that grief is personal, and no two people experience it the same way. That’s why we tailor our approach to fit you. We help teens, young adults, and third culture kids work through their grief in a way that feels right for them.

Our approach includes:

- Helping you understand and process your emotions, without pressure to “move on” too quickly

- Finding ways to honor your loved one’s memory while still moving forward in your life

- Rebuilding your confidence and sense of self, which can sometimes feel lost after grief

- Offering tools to help with the anxiety, stress, or depression that can come with grief

You deserve to feel supported, understood, and safe while working through your loss. Our goal is to help you find peace, not only with what’s happened, but with how you move forward.

What can we talk about in grief counseling?

There's no right or wrong topic when it comes to grief counseling. We talk about what’s on your mind and what’s most important to you. Some common things we explore include:

- Understanding the stages of grief and how they show up in your life

What is the difference between TCK life Coaching with Rebekah and Counseling with Jeffrey?

Life Coaching and Counseling overlap in many ways. Both help you reach life goals, deal with relational issues, process the past, etc. However, the way they are different is mainly what Life Coaching can’t do. For any type of diagnosing, trauma, suicidal ideation, and extreme cases, you would need to do Counseling with Jeffrey under his LPC license.

Both Jeffrey and Rebekah are specialized in TCK therapy. Rebekah is a Life Coach with official certifications in TCK Caregiving, Anxiety Coaching, and Christian Spiritual Direction.

Jeffrey is a Licensed Professional Counselor who has done extensive research on TCKs. He also specializes in and has done extensive research on ADHD.

Since Jeffrey is an LPC, he is licensed to diagnose and handle high levels of trauma, so if that is the case, you would be referred to him. Either way, once you have an introduction session with us, we will refer you to the one of us we think your situation needs the most and if we aren’t the right fit we will refer you to our network of other therapists.

Do you provide virtual counseling, especially if we are outside of Texas or the USA?

Jeffrey LPC, can only provide in-person or online counseling if you are physically within the state of Texas.

If you are based anywhere else in the world we can help you with our life coach license.

Do you offer discounts to missionary families?

We are passionate about serving TCKs and making sure they receive proper support so we offer a few sessions at a discounted rate. If those discounted sessions are already taken, then we do our best to pair you with other therapists and resources that match your budget.

We can also work with Missionaries’ sending organizations to see if they will pay for part of therapy.

Do you offer family therapy?

Jeffrey and Rebekah are not family therapists, so if a client needs family therapy, we will refer them out to experienced therapists in our network. Individual therapy often involves other family members though, so there might be a few sessions that can involve other family members in order to support the individual client and their growth journey.
