It’s time to make peace with the different layers of your multifaceted upbringing

We get it. You’ve moved more times than you can count. You’ve had to start over in new places, make new friends, adapt to new cultures, miss your family, and it is A LOT to process.

No one teaches you how to deal with all of this, and sometimes you need more than just a reset mindset. You need to heal and make peace with how all this chaos, and all these journeys are exactly how it was supposed to be.

We get it. You’ve moved more times than you can count. You’ve had to start over in new places, make new friends, adapt to new cultures, miss your family, and it is A LOT to process.

No one teaches you how to deal with all of this, and sometimes you need more than just a reset mindset. You need to heal and make peace with all this chaos, and learn to be you with all the different layers.

Does any of this sound familiar?

  • You struggle with a sense of belonging and identity, you’ve grown up in different cultures, and sometimes you feel lost, confused, isolated and have a hard time knowing where your true home is.

  • From one relocation to the next, you've confronted the challenges of adapting to change, building new relationships, yet despite always being with your family, you still feel alone and off balance.

  • You feel you lack a sense of rootedness and that you don't completely fit in.

  • Despite being exposed to multiple cultures, you may feel disconnected from your native culture, as well as from the cultures of the places you have lived in, resulting in a sense of not feeling like you belong anywhere.

Believe us, we get it because we were Third Culture Kids too

(and we didn't even know it)

We came to learn that TCK 's are people who have grown up in a culture different from the one in which his or her parents grew up. Understanding this has helped us with our combined experience of living in six countries and five continents including Latin America, North America, the Middle East, Europe, and Asia.

It’s time to make peace with the rollercoaster of your upbringing so you can go from

  • Feeling like you don't belong to feeling empowered  and understanding how to navigate the complexities of this upbringing

  • Feeling socially awkward to handling social interactions with confidence

  • Feeling anxious about constant change to managing stress, and fostering a sense of belonging

"As a clinician in the Mental Health Counseling field, I have had the opportunity of working alongside Jeffrey in various settings such as PHP/IOP and private practice. In both settings, I have seen how dedicated and passionate Jeffrey is about helping others and how mindful he is of the importance of catering his treatment approach based on the uniqueness of each individual. As a counselor, Jeffrey demonstrates the level of capability and proficiency needed to help those from various multicultural communities and backgrounds. He continues to work on improving the access and effectiveness of counseling individuals that struggle due to cultural barriers."

frequently asked questions about TCK therapy

  • What is TCK?

TCK stands for Third Culture Kid. It refers to individuals who have spent a significant part of their developmental years outside their parents' culture(s) due to their parents' occupation or lifestyle choices. As a result, TCKs often form a "third culture" that incorporates elements of their parents' culture(s) and the cultures of the places they have lived.

  • What is a multicultural and TCK counselor?

A multicultural and TCK counselor is a therapist who specializes in providing counseling services to individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds, including Third Culture Kids. They are trained to understand and address the unique challenges and experiences faced by multicultural individuals and TCKs, and they incorporate cultural sensitivity and awareness into their therapeutic approach.

  • What to expect from a multicultural or TCK therapy session?

In a multicultural or TCK therapy session, you can expect a safe and supportive environment where your cultural identities and experiences are validated and respected. We will work collaboratively with you to explore cultural influences on your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and address any challenges related to cultural adjustment, identity development, or acculturation.

  • Why is multicultural TCK therapy important?

Multicultural TCK therapy is important because it acknowledges and addresses the unique needs and experiences of individuals from multicultural backgrounds, including TCKs. It provides a culturally sensitive and inclusive space for clients to explore their identities, navigate cultural transitions, and address any challenges or concerns related to their multicultural upbringing.

  • What challenges do TCK and multicultural kids encounter?

TCKs and multicultural kids may encounter various challenges, including:

    • Identity confusion: Difficulty in forming a stable sense of identity due to exposure to multiple cultures.
    • Cultural adjustment: Struggles with adapting to new environments, social norms, and cultural expectations.
    • Sense of belonging: Feelings of not fully belonging to any one culture or community.
    • Loss and grief: Grieving the loss of relationships, stability, and a sense of home due to frequent relocations.
    • Cultural conflict: Conflicts between the values, beliefs, and expectations of different cultures they are exposed to.
    • Language barriers: Challenges in communication and expression due to language differences.
    • Social isolation: Difficulty in forming lasting connections and friendships due to frequent moves and cultural differences.

  • What is the difference between TCK life Coaching with Rebekah and TCK Counseling with Jeffrey?

Life Coaching and Counseling overlap in many ways. Both help you reach life goals, deal with relational issues, process the past, etc. However, the way they are different is mainly what Life Coaching can’t do. For any type of diagnosing, trauma, suicidal ideation, and extreme cases, you would need to do Counseling with Jeffrey under his LPC license.

Both Jeffrey and Rebekah are specialized in TCK therapy. Rebekah is a Life Coach with official certifications from TCK Training on TCK Caregiving.

Jeffrey is a Licensed Professional Counselor who has done extensive research on TCKs. He also specializes in and has done extensive research on ADHD.

Since Jeffrey is an LPC, he is licensed to diagnose and handle high levels of trauma, so if that is the case, you would be referred to him. Either way, once you have an introduction session with us, we will refer you to the one of us we think your situation needs the most and if we aren’t the right fit we will refer you to our network of other TCK therapists.

  • Do you provide virtual counseling, especially if we are outside of Texas or the USA?

Jeffrey LPC, can only provide in-person or online counseling if you are physically within the state of Texas.

If you are based anywhere else in the world we can help you with our life coach license.

  • Do you offer discounts to missionary families?

We are passionate about serving TCKs and making sure their receive proper support so we offer a few sessions at a discounted rate. If those discounted sessions are already taken, then we do our best to pair you with other therapists and resources that match your budget.

We can also work with Missionaries’ sending organizations to see if they will pay for part of therapy.

  • Do I have to be a TCK to see you?

No. We both specialize in TCKs, but we have seen clients of many different backgrounds. Jeffrey also specializes in ADHD.

  • Do you offer family therapy?

Jeffrey and Rebekah are not family therapists, so if a client needs family therapy, we will refer them out to experienced therapists in our network. Individual therapy often involves other family members though, so there might be a few sessions that can involve other family members in order to support the individual client and their growth journey.
