Self esteem therapy in Dallas

Feeling unsure of yourself or struggling with confidence is more common than you think, especially when you’re still figuring out who you are and where you fit in. Whether it’s worries about your body image, social situations, relationships, or the pressure to succeed, these feelings can seriously affect your self-esteem. At Healing Harmony, we’re here to provide a supportive space for teens, young adults, and third culture kids (TCKs) in Dallas and across Texas to work through these challenges.

If you’ve been feeling low, we want you to know that you’re not alone, and it’s okay to seek help. Let’s dive into what self-esteem therapy is, the signs to look for, and how we can help you build a stronger, more confident version of yourself.

What is self-esteem therapy?

Self-esteem therapy focuses on building and strengthening your sense of self-worth. It’s about understanding the beliefs you have about yourself and working through the negative thoughts that might be holding you back. For teens and young adults, these might include worries about how others perceive you, comparing yourself to others online, or feeling pressure to meet certain expectations in school, relationships, or social media. Therapy offers a safe space to explore these feelings and develop a more positive, realistic view of yourself.

Most common symptoms of low self-esteem in young people

Self-esteem issues can look different for everyone, but here are some signs that you might be struggling with self-esteem:

- Constantly comparing yourself to others and feeling like you don’t measure up.

- Avoiding social situations because you worry about being judged.

- Negative self-talk, such as thoughts like “I’m not good enough” or “I can’t do anything right”.

- Struggling to set boundaries or say no, even when you feel uncomfortable.

- Feeling anxious about your body image or appearance.

- Experiencing fear of failure or not trying new things because you think you’ll fail.

- Finding it hard to believe when people compliment you or say nice things about you.

If any of these sound familiar, it’s okay to ask for help. Working on your self-esteem can help you feel more secure in who you are and more confident in facing life’s challenges.

How do I know if I have low self-esteem?

If you often find yourself feeling like you’re not enough or that you don’t deserve happiness, it might be time to talk to someone. Ask yourself:

- Do I struggle to accept myself as I am?

- Do I feel anxious or stressed when I think about how others perceive me?

- Am I constantly comparing myself to others on social media?

- Do I avoid challenges or opportunities because I fear failing?

- Do I often put myself down, even when things are going well?

If you answered "yes" to some of these, self-esteem therapy can provide you with the tools to shift these patterns and build a healthier, more positive self-image.

FAQs

Are self-esteem and self-confidence the same?

Not exactly. Self-esteem is about how you value yourself overall, while self-confidence is more about believing in your abilities in specific areas.

Can low self-esteem cause depression?

Yes, low self-esteem can increase feelings of sadness and hopelessness, which may lead to depression if left unaddressed.

What is the importance of building good self-esteem from childhood?

Building self-esteem early helps form a strong foundation for handling life’s challenges and developing a positive self-image.

What is the difference between self esteem vs self worth?

Self-esteem and self-worth are related but distinct concepts that influence how we view and value ourselves. Self-esteem is often based on external factors and how we perceive our abilities, achievements, and how we compare ourselves to others. It can fluctuate depending on our successes, failures, or the feedback we receive from those around us. Essentially, self-esteem is tied to our sense of confidence and self-evaluation based on our performance or accomplishments.

On the other hand, self-worth is a deeper, more intrinsic sense of value that isn’t dependent on external achievements or opinions. It’s the belief that you are inherently valuable and deserving of love and respect, simply for being who you are, regardless of your skills, status, or what you accomplish. While self-esteem can be influenced by changing circumstances, self-worth remains constant because it’s rooted in an unshakeable belief in your own inherent value. Understanding the difference between these two can be empowering, helping you build a more stable and authentic sense of self.

What are some self esteem therapy activities for teens and young adults?

Building self-esteem in teens and young adults can be supported through a variety of therapeutic activities. Examples include gratitude journaling to promote positive thinking, exploring personal strengths to recognize unique talents, and practicing self-compassion by writing letters of encouragement to themselves. Engaging in creative exercises like vision boards or art therapy helps visualize goals and express emotions. Mindfulness and meditation techniques can reduce negative self-talk, while role-playing scenarios and goal-setting activities teach assertiveness and celebrate progress. These approaches empower teens to develop self-awareness, self-acceptance, and confidence in their abilities.

What is the difference between TCK life Coaching with Rebekah and Counseling with Jeffrey?

Life Coaching and Counseling overlap in many ways. Both help you reach life goals, deal with relational issues, process the past, etc. However, the way they are different is mainly what Life Coaching can’t do. For any type of diagnosing, trauma, suicidal ideation, and extreme cases, you would need to do Counseling with Jeffrey under his LPC license.

Both Jeffrey and Rebekah are specialized in TCK therapy. Rebekah is a Life Coach with official certifications in TCK Caregiving, Anxiety Coaching, and Christian Spiritual Direction.

Jeffrey is a Licensed Professional Counselor who has done extensive research on TCKs. He also specializes in and has done extensive research on ADHD.

Since Jeffrey is an LPC, he is licensed to diagnose and handle high levels of trauma, so if that is the case, you would be referred to him. Either way, once you have an introduction session with us, we will refer you to the one of us we think your situation needs the most and if we aren’t the right fit we will refer you to our network of other therapists.

Do you provide virtual counseling, especially if we are outside of Texas or the USA?

Jeffrey LPC, can only provide in-person or online counseling if you are physically within the state of Texas.

If you are based anywhere else in the world we can help you with our life coach license.

Do you offer discounts to missionary families?

We are passionate about serving TCKs and making sure they receive proper support so we offer a few sessions at a discounted rate. If those discounted sessions are already taken, then we do our best to pair you with other therapists and resources that match your budget.

We can also work with Missionaries’ sending organizations to see if they will pay for part of therapy.

Do you offer family therapy?

Jeffrey and Rebekah are not family therapists, so if a client needs family therapy, we will refer them out to experienced therapists in our network. Individual therapy often involves other family members though, so there might be a few sessions that can involve other family members in order to support the individual client and their growth journey.
