Sexual abuse therapy for teens and young adults in Dallas and across Texas

If you are experiencing sexual abuse or have survived it in the past, please know that it is not your fault. Abuse can come from anyone—whether it’s someone you know well or a stranger. The responsibility for this abuse does not lie with you, and there is help available. Talking about what’s happening, even though it might seem impossible, is one of the most important steps to take. Please reach out to a trusted person, or contact a sexual abuse hotline immediately. If you’re in immediate danger, call the National Sexual Assault Hotline at 1-800-656-4673.

At Healing Harmony, we provide a safe space for teens, young adults, and third culture kids (TCKs) across Dallas and Texas to process the trauma of sexual abuse and begin their healing journey. We understand that the pain and confusion surrounding sexual abuse can be overwhelming, but with the right support, healing is possible. Our therapy is designed to help you regain control of your life, rebuild your self-worth, and learn to trust again.

What is sexual abuse therapy?

Sexual abuse therapy is a form of counseling that focuses on helping individuals heal from the trauma caused by sexual abuse. This type of therapy provides a safe and non-judgmental space for you to talk about your experiences, process your feelings, and understand the long-lasting effects the abuse may have had on your mental and physical health. The goal of sexual abuse therapy is not just to overcome the trauma, but to help you regain your sense of self and feel empowered in your own life again.

Healing from sexual abuse can feel like a long and difficult journey, but therapy gives you tools to process the trauma at your own pace. We focus on helping you build emotional resilience, manage anxiety, and develop coping mechanisms to support you in day-to-day life.

Most common symptoms of sexual abuse trauma

The impact of sexual abuse can show up in various ways, and it often doesn’t look the same for everyone. You might be dealing with emotional, physical, or psychological symptoms that you’re not sure how to handle. Here are some common signs of trauma caused by sexual abuse:

- Constant anxiety, fear, or a sense of danger

- Trouble forming trusting relationships or feelings of isolation

- Intense feelings of guilt, shame, or self-blame

- Difficulty concentrating, getting schoolwork or work done

- Flashbacks or nightmares about the abuse

- Difficulty sleeping, or sleeping too much

- Emotional numbness, feeling disconnected from yourself or others

- Fear or discomfort around physical touch or intimacy

- Changes in appetite or sudden weight changes

- Unexplained physical symptoms like headaches, stomach aches, or body pain

If you're experiencing any of these symptoms, it's important to understand that they are valid responses to trauma, and help is available. Healing is a process, but with the right support, it’s possible to find relief from these symptoms.

How do I know if what I experienced was sexual abuse?

If you’re unsure whether your experience qualifies as sexual abuse, it’s important to know that sexual abuse can happen in many forms. It’s not always about physical force or violence. Abuse can include manipulation, coercion, or situations where consent was not given. Here are a few questions to ask yourself:

- Did someone force, pressure, or manipulate me into doing something sexual I didn’t want to do?

- Have I felt scared or uncomfortable around a specific person because of things they’ve said or done to me?

- Do I feel like I can’t talk about what happened, even with people I trust?

- Do I often feel guilty or blame myself for what happened, even though I know it wasn’t my fault?

If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, it might be time to seek support. It can be difficult to admit what’s happened or to label it as abuse, but talking to a therapist can help you process those feelings and take the first step toward healing.

How we treat sexual abuse in Dallas and across Texas

At Healing Harmony, we focus on providing trauma-informed therapy for teens and young adults who have experienced sexual abuse. Our approach is personalized to fit your specific needs, and we’re here to guide you through the healing process at a pace that feels right for you. - Mindfulness techniques: These help manage feelings of anxiety and stress in the moment, allowing you to ground yourself when things feel overwhelming.

- Self-esteem building exercises: Rebuild your confidence, sense of worth, and ability to trust yourself and others.

Our goal is to help you feel empowered to take back control of your life and create a future where you feel safe, supported, and in charge of your emotional well-being.

FAQs

How do I know if what I experienced was sexual abuse?

Sexual abuse doesn’t always look the same. If someone violated your boundaries, manipulated, or forced you into anything sexual against your will, it qualifies as abuse.

How can I tell my family that I’m being abused?

Talking to someone about abuse can be very difficult, but finding a trusted person to confide in is important. Therapy can also help you prepare for those conversations.

What do I do if I can’t prove that I’m being abused?

Even if you feel like you can’t "prove" the abuse, it’s still important to talk to someone. Your experience is valid, and therapy can help you work through what you’ve gone through.

How to survive childhood sexual abuse?

Surviving abuse takes time and support. Therapy can help you understand and process what happened, rebuild your self-esteem, and give you the tools to move forward.

How often does sexual abuse happen?

Unfortunately, sexual abuse is more common than many realize. According to statistics, 1 in 5 women and 1 in 6 men have experienced sexual abuse.

The important thing to remember is that you are not alone, and help is available.

What is the difference between TCK life Coaching with Rebekah and Counseling with Jeffrey?

Life Coaching and Counseling overlap in many ways. Both help you reach life goals, deal with relational issues, process the past, etc. However, the way they are different is mainly what Life Coaching can’t do. For any type of diagnosing, trauma, suicidal ideation, and extreme cases, you would need to do Counseling with Jeffrey under his LPC license.

Both Jeffrey and Rebekah are specialized in TCK therapy. Rebekah is a Life Coach with official certifications in TCK Caregiving, Anxiety Coaching, and Christian Spiritual Direction.

Jeffrey is a Licensed Professional Counselor who has done extensive research on TCKs. He also specializes in and has done extensive research on ADHD.

Since Jeffrey is an LPC, he is licensed to diagnose and handle high levels of trauma, so if that is the case, you would be referred to him. Either way, once you have an introduction session with us, we will refer you to the one of us we think your situation needs the most and if we aren’t the right fit we will refer you to our network of other therapists.

Do you provide virtual counseling, especially if we are outside of Texas or the USA?

Jeffrey LPC, can only provide in-person or online counseling if you are physically within the state of Texas.

If you are based anywhere else in the world we can help you with our life coach license.

Do you offer discounts to missionary families?

We are passionate about serving TCKs and making sure they receive proper support so we offer a few sessions at a discounted rate. If those discounted sessions are already taken, then we do our best to pair you with other therapists and resources that match your budget.

We can also work with Missionaries’ sending organizations to see if they will pay for part of therapy.

Do you offer family therapy?

Jeffrey and Rebekah are not family therapists, so if a client needs family therapy, we will refer them out to experienced therapists in our network. Individual therapy often involves other family members though, so there might be a few sessions that can involve other family members in order to support the individual client and their growth journey.
